What do we do?
Help GHOF, make a donation. We work with local communities to help create opportunities for young people.

We deliver fun and interactive training around the sport of angling. Our programme is especially designed with the help of young people to give the participants more confidence and to demonstrate that there are alternative pathways and better opportunities available to them.

We help to train and develop peer mentors at the same time as encouraging young people to take an active part in how we run the local schemes.

We are happy to work with all young people aged 6 and over and have a proven track-record in delivering social inclusion, improvements in school attendance and educational achievement.

How we help?

home
'Sam' was 13 when his school referred him to us because he lacked confidence, had low self-esteem and was starting to truant and spend his days with young people involved in anti-social behaviour ...

At Get Hooked he was supported by a mentor in person and by telephone. He successfully participated in our training modules and made friends with other students on the course. Sam’s school attendance improved dramatically and he became more popular. He often described his fishing sessions in class and even led a discussion for 50 minutes on the subject of the freshwater eel.

... now he coaches other young people on the scheme.

Our schemes act as a catalyst to bring local agencies together, drawing on the resources of public, private, community and voluntary sectors. We adopt this multi- agency approach to help build the sustainability of local schemes and to build a local bank of partners, volunteers, and supporters.

"Most Youth Service professionals who have encountered the Get Hooked on Fishing scheme have sensed something special about the project. There is an apparent synergy of vision, commitment, process and tangible outcomes." (Home Office - Positive Futures)

We are fortunate to have a number of strong commercial supporters sitting alongside our funding bodies who are able to see how we really help to change lives. We are currently working with our partners and trustees to build a stronger network in the UK at the same time as researching the wider social and health benefits of our work.

"we don't just go fishing on get hooked, we do many different things, we have fun we learn and we talk about some very serious things" (Quote from one of our participants)
